If you’re thinking about installing a metal roof on your home, you probably have a lot of questions. While searching online can give you some of the answers you need, sometimes it’s helpful to get all of your information in the same place and from a trustworthy source.

Based on our years of experience, here are some of the most common metal roof FAQs and their answers:

1. Is a Metal Roof Worth It?

Metal roofs cost more than traditional ones, but they are certainly worth the investment. They last much longer (sometimes decades longer) than asphalt shingle roofs. Metal roofs are energy-efficient and require less maintenance than other roofs. At resale, a home with a metal roof will often fetch a higher price.

2. How Are Metal Roofs Made?

Our New Tech metal roofing materials are a Standing Seam Metal Roof System that is fabricated right here in Missouri. These offer a clean, sharp appearance and are available in a variety of colors.

3. Do Metal Roofs Make Your Home Hotter?

No. Quite the opposite. A metal roof can make your home cooler in warm weather because the coating on them reflects light and heat away from the home. Asphalt shingles, on the other hand, absorb heat and can make your home hotter.

4. Will My Metal Roof Rust?

An aluminum metal roof will never rust, but there is a possibility with steel roofing. However, steel roofs with high zinc content are corrosion-resistant, particularly when they are installed correctly.

5. Can Metal Roofs Withstand Severe Weather?

When you live in a place with extreme weather, a metal roof is one of your best options. These roofing materials are incredibly resistant to hail, high winds, cold, and heat. A properly installed roof can withstand winds of over 100 mph.

6. Do Metal Roofs Interfere With Cellular Reception?

No. In our experience, a metal roof will not interfere with your cellular reception. In fact, many people use mobile devices in buildings with metal roofs all the time and don’t realize it.

7. Will a Metal Roof Fade?

Some metal roofs can fade after quite a few years of exposure to the elements. But the right superior coating on your roof can make it resistant to fading.

8. Can You Walk on a Metal Roof?

Most metal roofs are walkable, but homeowners should never attempt to climb on their own roof for several reasons. First, it’s not safe. Second, it’s possible to damage parts of the roofing system if you step in the wrong place.

9. Can You Install a Metal Roof Over Shingles?

Yes, you can install a metal roof directly over an asphalt shingle roof. This can save you a significant amount in installation costs. It’s also an environmentally-friendly choice because you aren’t adding waste materials to a landfill.

10. Are Metal Roofs Loud When it Rains?

This is a common misconception. A metal roof isn’t any louder than a roof made of other materials when it rains. With the insulation used on most roofs today, the noise dissipates before it reaches the inside of the home.
